Professional Skills Summary

Professional Skills Summary When employers are asked what they are searching for in graduates, it is more than just a ‘good degree’. Although it is necessary, chances are highly improved when a graduate show ‘key skills’, and transferable ones (Knight & Yorke, 2005, p.5). It is here that a professional show their true colours, and knows how to market themselves to achieve success in their chosen careers.

As the world is rapidly changing, so too are the skills required to live and function successfully in the future. Education needs to reflect this ever-changing world, and educators may end up training students that are no longer useful when they reach the work force (Bransford, 2007). Preparing people for the changes ahead in the future through needs to emphasise the adaptive aspects of expertise, the transferability of skills (Bransford, 2007).

Professional skills are developed through education, workplace and life experiences. Within this document a number of professional skills will be discussed that are regarded highly when it comes to someone being employed as what attribute skills does this individual bring to ensure success of the company. Throughout this report the graduate attribute skills will be addressed and examined according to my performance to each which is communication, problem solving, critical thinking, information technology, teamwork and ethical practice. The Queensland College of Teachers Professional skills that I have also asserted over time will be discussed to showcase these specific skills.
